Job Overview: Responsible for the design, development and coordination of the Alcohol and Other Drugs of Abuse Prevention/Intervention Program.

 

Work Schedule:

Monday-Wednesday, Friday 8-5pm

Thursday 1-9pm

 

1.        Demonstrates and abides by the Company Core Values and the operating principles.

2.        Designs, develops and implements all programs related to substance use and abuse prevention and intervention in conjunction with the Mental Health Consultant, Counseling and Health Services staff, center physician and Academy Director.

3.        Coordinates all programs designed to reduce and eliminate substance use and abuse.

4.        Conducts in-service training sessions with both staff and students in all areas related to substance use and abuse.

5.        Submits recommendations to the Academy Director for medical termination’s related to substance misuse and abuse in conjunction with the Mental Health Consultant, center physician, Health and Wellness Administrator, etc.

6.        Acts as liaison between center and agency resource and referral contacts.

7.        Monitors behavior and progress of students involved in the Alcohol and Other Drugs of Abuse Prevention/Intervention Program.

8.        Maintains confidential reports and records on all referrals and cases.

9.        Prepares and submits appropriate reports as required.

10.     Attends required staff training sessions.

11.     Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements:

·          Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or related field. Must have State certification in alcohol and drug counseling. Three years work-related experience. Model company Core Values

 

·          Preferred Minimum plus Master’s degree.  Previous experience with disadvantaged youth, particularly in a residential setting highly desirable.

 

·          General Information:  In order to perform the essential job functions of this position, candidate must have regular attendance

·          Knowledge Required:  Broad-based knowledge of counseling techniques.

Knowledgeable in the area of alcohol and other drugs of abuse intervention program.

Ability to design, develop and implement a program related to alcohol and other drugs of abuse and intervention.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Training skills in both individual and group counseling methods.

Ability to relate well to young adults.

Must possess and maintain valid CPR/First Aid certification.

Classified Description The Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans, AAMA Inc., seeks an experienced full-time Chemical Dependency Counselor for our Casa Phoenix program. Casa Phoenix is a residential substance abuse program serving young men ages 13-17 with a behavior change treatment model. AAMA’s mission is to advance the lives of at-risk Hispanic youth and families in Texas with innovative health, education and community services. We serve over 30,000 men, women and children in multiple sites in Texas and are one of the largest providers of alcohol and drug treatment services in the state. Classified Title Counselor I & II
Classified Description

Description:  Completes comprehensive assessments of clients’ substance abuse history and treatment requirements, and develops individualized treatment plan. Provides individual and group counseling and may facilitate didactic groups. Documents treatment and discharge plans, and clients’ progress and responses to treatment; and maintains related records and charts. Performs case management and contributes to client care monitoring.

 

Counselor I Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work or a related field a plus.  Must be registered as a Counselor Intern (CI) by the Texas Department of State Health Services or be a Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional-Applicant (CCJP-A). Must be able to obtain Department of Corrections clearance as required by state of hire.

 

Counselor II Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work or a related field a plus. Current Chemical Dependency Counselor License (LCDC) or Criminal Justice Addictions Professional Certification (CCJP) required. Previous work experience in a corrections environment preferred.
